For many businesses, finding a niche market takes a lot of work and focus. For Belle Grande of Charlotte, that niche was easy to discover. For the past 10 years, the polka dot awning adorned shop has provided a place for plus-size women to find fashion and advice that fits.
Angel Fulkerson took over the store after former owner Betsy Smith retired and said catering to those in sizes 14 and over has created a loyal band of clientele, some who travel from hours away to shop at the downtown Charlotte store.
“There are not many stores like us in the state of Michigan,” said Fulkerson. “We try to stay current and fresh with our clothes while offering a wide variety.”
Although making the change from store manager to owner has brought forth a few challenges, Fulkerson has loved every second she spends in the store.
“I love what I do,” said Fulkerson with a smile. “I love coming to work every day.”
Employee Ashley Schroll echoed Fulkerson’s sentiment and enjoys working to help customers find just the right apparel or accessories they desire.
“I love my customers,” said Schroll. “I love making plus size women feel good when they leave here which I think is one of the most important things.”
The shop is open for business six days a week and more information can be found by finding Bella Grande on Facebook.
Belle Grande is located at 227 S. Cochran Avenue in downtown Charlotte.
