Friday, Sept. 8, the Charlotte Orioles made their triumphant return to the Capital Area Activities Conference.  The Orioles were on the road at Waverly High School.

Charlotte earned its second victory of the year to push their record to 2-1 on the year and is currently tied for first place in the CAAC Red division.

It was another night of running the ball and controlling the line of scrimmage for the Orioles. CHS had a strong game from some of the usual suspects and a few of their younger players. Dom Ghiardi rushed for 220 yards and had five touchdowns. Sophomore, Gunner Oudesma got some work in as QB in the second half and ran for two touchdowns. Lastly, senior Andrew Lake had a career high 140 yards on the ground to finish the balanced running attack for the Orioles.

With a running attack this potent the men up front have to control the line of scrimmage. Seniors John O’Brian, Jacob Ryals, Dallas Mollette, Caleb Pierce and junior, Brandon Silvers all worked to anchor the offensive line.   With help from junior tight ends, Brendan Monschein and Rhys Carter, the Orioles rushed for a game high 430 yards.

The defense for the Orioles worked hard all night defending the pass and run against the Warriors. Waverly did break off some big runs for the bulk of their offense, but the defense tightened up when needed to keep the Warriors out of the end zone. The defense was led again by Aaron Thompson, Brendan Sine, Alex Willison, Kaleb Keyes, Jarrett Thorne and Ryan Jester.

The Orioles defense only gave up a total of 202 yards.

The Orioles will next host one of the area’s best teams, the DeWitt Panthers.  DeWitt is also tied for first in the league with an overall record of 2-1. We need all of Oriole Nation to attend the games to show your support.
