Four Charlotte High School girls varsity basketball players scored in double figures as the Orioles rolled to a 74-54 season-opening win at Lakewood High School on Tuesday, Dec. 4. 

Carly Scheblo and Grace Smith each scored 21 points for Charlotte to lead the way. Lauren Anderson added 17 points and 15 rebounds. Ashley Beck finished with 12 points. CHS drained nine three-pointers paced by Smith’s five triples. 

The Orioles were scheduled to play Lansing Catholic Central on Friday, Dec. 7, before heading back out on the road the following week, with games at Olivet High School on Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Ionia High School on Friday, Dec. 14.

CHS Boys earn first win

The Charlotte High School boys varsity basketball team also recorded its first win of the season Tuesday, Dec. 4, defeating Lakewood at home, 40-35. The boys were 1-2 on the season heading into Friday’s home matchup against Lansing Catholic Central.

Maple Valley defeates Zion

The Maple Valley High School girls varsity basketball team opened its season with a 41-27 win over Zion. Ashlyn Wilkes led the way for the Lions, scoring 12 points in the win. Britani Shilton also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Bellevue and Maple Valley to return to LCA

The Bellevue and Maple Valley basketball programs will return to Detroit Jan. 19 to match up on the hardwood at Little Caesars Arena. The boys and girls teams from each respective school will square off at 11 a.m., followed by the Detroit Pistons game against the Sacramento Kings that evening.
