The Bellevue American Legion Post is celebrating significant growth, recognition and renewed activity as members continue working to strengthen the organization and its presence in the community.
On Aug. 5, the Bellevue Post was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for reaching 100% Post membership by District Leadership Steve Caudill and Ed Jenks. The recognition marks an important milestone for the post, which has seen substantial membership growth this year.
Earlier this year, Adjutant Jan Shaw made increasing membership a priority, reaching out to area veterans through phone calls, mail and personal visits. Her efforts, combined with the work and support of other post members, helped grow membership from just five members to 20.
The post also received a Certificate of Excellence recognizing its distinguished service, unwavering dedication and exceptional contribution to the mission, values and principles of The American Legion.
With membership growing, the post is also looking for additional opportunities to become more visible and involved in the Bellevue community.
Plans are underway for members to attend Bellevue High School football games this fall, where the post will present the colors. The participation will provide an opportunity for local veterans to support Bellevue students and families while continuing the American Legion tradition of promoting patriotism and respect for the American flag.
The post is also preparing for a new meeting location. Beginning Sept. 2, meetings will be held at 734 W. Capital Ave., the Bellevue Christian Center.
The post hopes to continue building its presence in Bellevue while providing fellowship and support for local veterans and carrying forward the longstanding mission of The American Legion.
