Firefighters, teachers, military members, healthcare professionals, EMS personnel, and law enforcement officers who are buying or selling a home may qualify for significant savings through the Homes for Heroes program. Local RE/MAX Real Estate Professional Karen Younts helps make that possible in the area.

As an ambassador with Homes for Heroes, she connects these heroes to a program that helps eligible buyers and sellers save money on their real estate transactions. Eligible participants can save an average of about $3,000 when buying or selling a home, or about $6,000 when they both buy and sell through the program, depending on the sale price of home. 

A portion of the proceeds also supports the Homes for Heroes Foundation, which provides assistance to heroes facing financial hardship.

Organizers say the program not only benefits those who serve but also strengthens local communities by supporting local businesses and giving back to those in need. 

“I donate 30% of my commission on these transactions, and the hero receives a check after closing,” said Younts. “It’s a way to give back, and I feel blessed to be able to give back to the people who work so hard for us.”

“I could sell houses without this program, but I wanted to do something that gives back,” Younts said. “It’s both personal and professional for me.”

Younts said the program is especially meaningful to her because several members of her family, including her father, father-in-law, brother, and two nephews, have all served in the military.

“There is no red tape, no hidden fees, and no catch,” Younts said. “There is no cost to enroll in the program.”

Younts helps people buy or sell homes through the program and hopes to make more eligible heroes aware of the opportunity. 

To participate, homebuyers and sellers must work with a Homes for Heroes affiliate. Nationwide, the organization has helped more than 73,000 heroes.

Younts was also a sponsor of the June 30 Sunset and Chill event at The Quarry in Charlotte, where three veterans received gift baskets during the Military Appreciation Giveaway. 

She also distributed thank-you gifts to military personnel. 

Younts’ enthusiasm for supporting the five hero groups doesn’t go unnoticed. “She’s the best at high fives and hugs,” said Adam Auvenshine from The Quarry.
