Virgil Frank Wayne Pratt, a man who would help anyone in need, died on Monday, September 8, 2025. Virgil, 94, of Charlotte, was born on December 30, 1930, in Lansing, the son of Romine and Lucille (Martin) Pratt. Upon graduating from high school, Virgil married Matha Mather and started their family until her passing. Shortly after he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served as an MP during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Trackman for the Grand Truck Railroad for 30 plus years until his retirement. In his younger years he enjoyed camping all over the state and country, and was a proud member of the National Camping Hiking Association. Virgil also enjoyed playing and coaching softball, trips to the casino, and playing cards. With his second wife, Joan, he took up clowning, the couple was referred to as “Honey Bee and Buzz” and brought joy to many children. He also took joy in playing Santa Clause. Later in life he enjoyed playing Bingo, going for car rides, watching old westerns and gameshows, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Above all his family brought his the most enjoyment in life

Virgil is survived by his children, Vicki Root, Steve Pratt, and Gordon Pratt; grandchildren, Lance Root, Dawn (Chad) Crandell, Laura Medina, Jamie Wiggs, Matthew (Micheala) Root, Larisa Pratt, Katie Wirth, Cheyenne (Dakota) Dragon, and Rebecca Pratt; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Martha; second wife, Joan; and third wife, Bernice; son-in-law, Michael Root; siblings, Jack, Ken, Barbara, Joan, Nancy, and Dale.

Pamela Doris (Hedges) Brenner passed away on August 31, 2025 at University of Michigan Sparrow Hospital in Lansing at the age of 70.

She was a strong, capable, and intelligent women, an inspiration to her family and friends.

Pamela is survived by her son, Travis; daughter-in-law, Casie; ex-husband, Jeff; and brother, Jeff.

There will be a simple memorial service at her former home at 6098 Nichols Road in Mason on Saturday, September 20 from 2 p.m. until dark. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, in memory of her mother.

Sharon Kay Colbath-Sadler Craft, 77, of Charlotte, a woman of great compassion and love for others, died peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025. Sharon was born January 16, 1948 in Mason, the daughter of Raymond Samuel and Bernice (Lott) Colbath. She graduated from Mason High School in 1966 before going to work at Dart Container. Soon after she decided to change careers and moved on to General Motors in Lansing. Sharon will be remembered by many for her willingness to help others at all costs. Not only was she known to help people, but she also went out of her way to help animals, even if it meant holding up traffic to save a turtle from the road. Sharon was a lifetime member of Nashville Baptist Church, where she was active throughout the years in many capacities, including helping in the kitchen, organizing Bible school, or participating in Bible study. Outside of church, Sharon volunteered many hours helping the elderly and enjoying her various decoupage projects. Above all, Sharon loved her family.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 24 years, Rodger Craft; their shared children, Paula Sadler, Shannon (James) Henman, Brent (Kelly) Craft, and Mallory Craft; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Sadler-Purchis, Alexis Sadler-Purchis, Nicklaus Henman, Payton Henman, Riley Henman, Kaiden Craft, Kylie Craft and Hadley Craft; two great-grandchildren, Zayden and Quenlyn Aguinaga; sister, Bonnie Jordan; brother, Samuel Colbath and his partner May Pouzar; and several nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her son, Derek Sadler and twin sister, Karon Pewoski.

Robert Joseph VaVerka, age 82, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 1, 2025, following a courageous battle with dementia.

Born on November 20, 1942, in Redford Township, Michigan, Bob was the son of Walter and Katherine (Capra) VaVerka. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Fincham) VaVerka; daughters, Ann (Dan) Roiter of Charlotte and Susan Authement (Jerry Whitewolf) of Flint; grandson, Devin Roiter of Charlotte; sister, Katherine Lowman (Steve Oeffner) of Bedford, Texas; great-granddaughter, Vi Smith of New York; and honorary daughter, Libby Klaiss of Charlotte; along with extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved granddaughter, Amanda Authement.

Bob spent his career in sales—and he truly could sell anything. Even after retirement, he never stopped tinkering, always finding a project to keep his hands busy and out of Mary’s hair.

A lifelong car enthusiast, Bob loved them all—new, vintage, and especially fast. Whether it was a Model T or a Camaro filling the garage, he was happiest behind the wheel, windows down, offering a ride to anyone willing.

When he wasn’t in the garage or barn, Bob could be found on the water. His love of the outdoors—hunting, fishing, boating—was undeniable, shaped by summers up north and by building the family cottage on Lake Bellaire. Up north was his sanctuary, a place to recharge with loved ones, while watching the boats go by or being out on the water.

Bob was known for his humor, always ready with a joke and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He adored animals and always had a loyal dog at his side—from Buttons to Ruby—and he shared in Mary’s love of horses, even keeping a few drafts of his own.

Much of his time was spent caring for his land, whether mowing, working in the barn, or carving trails through the property. His family will forever remember the “Bobby 9 Toes” chapter of his life—a lawnmower mishap that became a legendary story.

Even with one less toe, Bob never lost his balance. He remained the steady foundation of his family: a leader, a counselor, and someone who never ended a phone call or visit without saying “I love you.”

Bob did not wish for a formal service. Instead, he asked that you spend that time with family—especially those you haven’t seen in a while. Make new memories using the time you would spend at his service, because life is short.

His family will hold a private gathering at a later date, raising a gin and tonic in his honor.

Larry Gene Davis, 82, of Charlotte, died peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025. Larry was born January 16, 1943, in Detroit, and was adopted by William and Anna (Miller) Davis at the age of four. He worked 30 years at L.L. Johnson Lumber, retiring in 2014. He married Sandra Kay Howard on June 21, 1986, in Charlotte. Many will remember Larry for his sense of humor and his love for his family.

Larry is survived by two step-sons, Monty and Tony Hankins; step-daughter, Lynn (Chris) Jones; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; brother, Duane Davis; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Davis on May 7, 2025; his parents; brother, Merle Davis; sister, Irene Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Paul Stults II, 56, fondly known as KP to all who knew and loved him, passed away on August 27, 2025, with his daughter by his side. KP was born on August 8, 1969 to Kenneth Paul and Diane Marie (Crandall) Stults in Charlotte, Michigan. He was a 1987 graduate of Charlotte High School. During his as adult life he worked in many different fields, most recently as a seamstress at Peckham Industries in Charlotte and Lansing.

From a young age KP liked to tinker with things, tear them apart, and rebuild them. One of his favorite jobs may have been when he worked at the salvage yard, pulling parts off cars. He loved working on cars, fishing, hunting, and playing video games. Some of his favorite times were spent “Up North” with his Grandpa and Grandma Stults, working on projects and fishing with grandpa. He was also very fond of cruising around on country roads listening to music and terrorizing his children and nephews with scary movies. He had a great imagination and could tell a great story that you couldn’t help but believe.

Family was very important to KP, although some difficulties in his life created challenges with family interactions. Before his passing he worked hard on repairing those relationships. He loved all of his children, was so proud of each of them, and adored his two granddaughters.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Eaton County Health and Rehabilitation Services for the excellent care he received there.

KP is survived by his children, Codie (Dakota) Zakora, Taylor Stults, Derek Stults; granddaughters MaKayla and Madalynn Zakora; father and stepmother, Kenneth and Christine Stults; sister, Jacqueline (Kirk) Hammond; niece, Heather (James Carnes) Lovaas; nephews, Michael (Kara Benjamin) Lovaas, and Nate (Sarah Neeser) Lovaas; grandmother, Mavis Stults; and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Diane; grandparents, Claude and Bess Crandall, Ken and Erma Wagonner, and Paul Stults.

Jill Kathryn (Von Losberg) Melton, age 79, passed away in Lansing on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Jill was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Donna E. (Davis) and John C. Von Losberg. She was predeceased by her parents, her great aunt, Mildred Hicks (John) Lignian who helped raise her; and husband of 12 years, Richard Melton. Jill will be missed by three cousins, Elaine Pincoe Fabinski of Midland, Les Von Losberg (Merle) of Sleepy Hollow, NY, and Laura Trubenstein Donahue (Dan) of San Angelo, TX and by many cousins once removed and many close friends.

Jill graduated from Olivet High School and Western Michigan University. She worked in Lansing for 35 years as a graphic designer/typesetter in the printing industry, 10 years as an administrative assistant for Prevention Network, a non-profit organization, and was the board secretary after her retirement for several years. She also acted as secretary for MICAP, another local non-profit. Jill was a member of the Mason Area Art Guild (MAAG) for a few years and served as secretary before the COVID-19 epidemic caused it to disband.

Jill is lovingly remembered by many friends made over her lifetime. Her friends were the highlight of her life! She helped plan her Olivet High School Class of 1964 reunions held every five years and then, in each year, beginning in 2020. She loved growing up in Olivet and keeping in touch with classmates. She was secretary of the Olivet Schools Alumni Association for many years. Hobbies over the years included a love of photography, reading mystery novels, drawing, knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and traveling with friends. Making gifts for her friends was a special joy. Jill loved animals and shared her home with 13 rescued cats over her lifetime.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Jill’s life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at Hicks Cemetery, 21724-20260 Capital Ave, NE, Pennfield Township, Michigan 49017.

Maxine “Max” Joyce Wells, 87, of Charlotte, died peacefully at her home with her children by her side on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Max was born June 16, 1938 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Russell and Ingle (York) Tompkins. As a schoolgirl, Max balanced her studies with caring for her ailing mother in the wake of her father’s early passing. When her mother passed a few years later, she and her siblings went to live with family friends, a loving gesture that instilled in Max the heart of a caregiver. A few years after graduating from Vermontville High School, she married the love of her life, Richard Lee Wells on April 29, 1961, and the two started their family. Both Max and Richard played a very central role in the lives of their children, always going along on field trips as chaperones and participating as a family in the local 4H. Later in life, Max enjoyed time working in the dietary department at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, and for Marlene’s Bridal. Max had a knack for cake decorating as well as creating many special works of art over the years in the form of hand-sewn quilts, paintings, crochet, and ceramics. She also loved time spent tending her flower gardens. Max was also an avid lover of her beloved pets, whom she referred as her grand-dogs. Above all, Maxine loved her family.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Barbara Wells; son, Robert Wells; and her granddaughter, Meagan Dowding. She was predeceased by her parents, and her three siblings, Vencil Tompkins, Walter Tompkins and Marcia Baker.

Jonathan Edward Larson of Summerville, Georgia and formerly of Springport, Eaton Rapids, and Niles, Michigan, passed away of natural causes at his Summerville, Georgia residence on August 27, 2025 at the age of 78. Jonathan was born in Jackson, on June 14, 1947, the son of Clyde and Frances (Naegele) Larson.

Jonathan loved to play the guitar with his brother in his younger years, loved his 1967 and 1970 Chevrolet Chevelles, watching movies, and woodworking. He was a 1965 Springport High School graduate and was employed as a factory worker at Aluminum Extrusions and Eaton Stamping. Jonathan loved living in Georgia’s warm climate.

Jonathan is survived by his children, Jonathan George Larson and Regina Larson; grandchildren, Jonathan C. Larson, Allen Larson, Cheyenne Larson, Dustin Marsiglio; brothers, Chester Larson and Brian (Sue) Larson; sister-in-law, Helene Larson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Donna L. Larson; brothers, Wayne Brock, Gary Brock and David Larson; sister-in-laws, Carol Brock, Susan Larson, and Sandra Brock.

David Christopher Rabidoux of Eaton Rapids, passed away August 30, 2025, at the age of 63. David was born in Montpelier, Ohio on November 25, 1961, the son of Dolphis II and Jean Rabidoux. He loved to be in the outdoors hunting, farming at Evergreen Farms in Eaton Rapids and in his younger years showing dairy cows in 4-H. David worked in the road construction industry until he was struck with ALS and was unable to continue that line of work.

David is survived by his parents; his wife, Tracy Lynn (Jacob) Rabidoux of Lansing; two sons, David of Maryland and Trenton (Ashley) Rabidoux Holt, MI; grandson, Hayden Rabidoux; brothers, Dolphis III and Dean Rabidoux; sister, Jill (Carl) Bienz; sister-in-law, Jill Ann Rabidoux; brother-in-law, Bryan Bloom and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Edward Rabidoux and sister, Julia Bloom.
