Wayne Terwilliger

Wayne “Twig” Terwilliger entered this life on June 27, 1925, courtesy of Doris (Veeder) and Ivan Terwilliger. He served his country during World War II, taking part in the first Amphibious Assault Wave on Saipan.
Wayne was fortunate to do what he loved for most of his life and what he loved was baseball. He cared deeply about the racial injustice that he witnessed in his early career. He loved animals and adopted two rescue dogs, Fred and Ginger, who survive him.
He was also a lucky guy outside of baseball, having found the love of two wonderful women: his first wife, Mary Jane (mother of children Marcie and Steve); and later, his current wife, Linda (and her sons Mike and Kevin). Wayne was “Grandpa Twig” to Terra and her children. Leaving this life before him were Mary Jane, loving “Auntie B” Bernice (Terwilliger) Wilson, and ‘biggest fan’ sister, Mary Lou Schneckenberger (and husband Richard).
One of many special memories Marcie has is being in the stands one chilly night game in the Majors. Her Dad came up out of the dugout mid-game, spotted her and proceeded up the many stairs. All eyes were on him, likely wondering what was going on, when he took off his warm-up jacket, placing it around her shoulders and quickly headed back down to the field. “That was my Dad. I never felt so special in my life.”
Marcie had a vision shortly before Wayne’s passing, appearing like an old black and white sports newsreel of her Dad running bases and fielding in his early career, prompting speculation that perhaps he gets to start all over again as an eager rookie.
Wayne departed on this, his last “road trip” on February 3, 2021. Missed often throughout the years by his loved ones, Marcie and Steve anticipate a joyful future reunion.
Per Wayne’s wishes, no formal service will take place.
