Mary Agnes Hill

Mary Agnes Hill, 90, of Beaverton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025. Mary was born April 2, 1935 in South Boston, Massachusetts to Joseph and Mary Hegarty. Mary spent most of her life as a homemaker and as a devoted member of the Catholic Church. In her spare time she enjoyed the simple things in life such as tending to her beautiful gardens near the lakeside, thrift shopping, trying out new crafts, and spending time with her family. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and was one of 13 children. She married the love of her life Dale Hill, a farmboy sailor from Michigan that she met at the ports in South Boston. The two married in South Boston on June 25, 1954. After getting married and raising four children, Mary decided to return to school to finally receive her high school diploma. At the age of 35, she graduated from Charlotte High School. Mary worked at Olivet College as a cook. Although, the ongoing family joke was that she could never really cook, but she loved to bake. She was always a woman of strong beliefs and will, which is something she passed to all her children and grandchildren. Mary always told her grandchildren “one day you will inherit the family jewels.” We never were quite sure what that meant at the time, but we now believe “the jewels” are the super power to persevere through all adversities. Mary will be remembered for her laughter, her inability to pass up a good deal, her strength, and her strong Boston accent.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Dale Hill; close friend Walter Skotynsky; and grandchild Kelly Stegenga. Mary is survived by her four children, Sandra (Keith) Moss, Keith (Louann) Hill, Kathy Grabenstein, Kurt (Leah) Hill; and grandchildren, Cameron (Rachael) Bulock, Jeannie (Chris) Tucker, Ian (Kim) Hasper, James (Jennifer) Stegenga, Teddy (Jack) Jaquette, Gretchen McLaughlin, Scooter Hill; and great-grandchildren Alexandria Tucker, Jordan Stegenga, Jules Stegenga, Hailey Bulock, Brett Bulock, Oliver Hasper, and Arthur Jaquette.

An intimate family service will be held in the near future. Arrangements entrusted to Vickers Leslie Funeral Home, PO Box 503, Leslie, MI 49251. 517-878-6600.
