Virgil Frank Wayne Pratt


Virgil Frank Wayne Pratt, a man who would help anyone in need, died on Monday, September 8, 2025. Virgil, 94, of Charlotte, was born on December 30, 1930, in Lansing, the son of Romine and Lucille (Martin) Pratt. Upon graduating from high school, Virgil married Matha Mather and started their family until her passing. Shortly after he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served as an MP during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Trackman for the Grand Truck Railroad for 30 plus years until his retirement. In his younger years he enjoyed camping all over the state and country, and was a proud member of the National Camping Hiking Association. Virgil also enjoyed playing and coaching softball, trips to the casino, and playing cards. With his second wife, Joan, he took up clowning, the couple was referred to as “Honey Bee and Buzz” and brought joy to many children. He also took joy in playing Santa Clause. Later in life he enjoyed playing Bingo, going for car rides, watching old westerns and gameshows, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Above all his family brought his the most enjoyment in life

Virgil is survived by his children, Vicki Root, Steve Pratt, and Gordon Pratt; grandchildren, Lance Root, Dawn (Chad) Crandell, Laura Medina, Jamie Wiggs, Matthew (Micheala) Root, Larisa Pratt, Katie Wirth, Cheyenne (Dakota) Dragon, and Rebecca Pratt; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Martha; second wife, Joan; and third wife, Bernice; son-in-law, Michael Root; siblings, Jack, Ken, Barbara, Joan, Nancy, and Dale.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 12 Noon at New Hope Community Church with Pastor Randy Royston officiating. Visitation will be held just prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family is in the care of Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
