It is always a pleasure to visit Mitten Misfits Sanctuary. Our last visit introduced us to Vick and Bob Worthy, now excitement is in the air since the summer kick off with Mitten Misfits Sanctuary 5th anniversary that was on July 8. The Worthy’s started with only 14 animals rescued from a different fate, to live out a life of pampering and love; now they have over 100 of these beautiful creatures. Most any farm animal you can imagine has found a home here, as well as a bit on the exotic side of the Peacock.
The Worthy’s are so grateful to the whole community, for the time people have volunteered and the donations that have allowed them to continue to grow and offer a forever home to many animals. Worthy’s share that this sanctuary has not only been a blessing to each animal that has crossed their threshold, but also the people that have either visited or volunteered. There have been many people from the community that have found peace and a place where they belong, whether they experience autism, PTSD, or depression.
This visit, I share with you the many events they will be represented at.
In August they will be at three events. The first event will be at the Art in the Park in Lake Odessa. Followed by Old Town Art Festival, Mitten Misfits Sanctuary will have a booth, presenting useful information about their mission, promotional items to sell that will help the Sanctuary reach their goals, as well as artwork from the animals themselves. Yes, you read that right, these animals have created their own abstract art. Then a fun night with the goats and sheep at movie night on location at Mitten Misfits Sanctuary.
Coming up in October, Mitten Misfits Sanctuary has their biggest fundraising event, The Fall Festival in Grand Ledge, located at MMFS at 8650 W. Mount Hope Highway. Worthy’s will have food trucks, hayrides, children’s activities, and more. You do not want to miss the fun.
November is Cheryl’s Fall Photo Shoot, a great setting to have your family or individual photo.
December events are Giving Tuesday and Mitten Misfits will be the featured charity at the Delta Community Choir’s Holiday performance on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
