The Eaton Rapids boys varsity basketball team defeated the Portland Raiders 74-33 in a CAAC White Division league game on Feb. 21. The game was in support of Coaches vs. Cancer, and the Greyhounds wore purple and pink uniforms as well as purple warm-up shirts. The effort raised approximately $1,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society.
The Greyhounds played outstanding team defense to lead the way to victory. Griffin Gleason lead the scoring with 13 points, along with Bronson Sysum adding 11 points. Brandon Osypczuk has a solid game with key steals and assists during the game. RJ VanVliet made a great fast break move for a layup as he celebrated his birthday. Zach Dassance had 9 points, as did Ben Steele.
The Greyhounds hosted the Bulldogs of Mason on Feb. 25 for a crossover CAAC game, coming out on top by a score of 49-35. The Greyhounds controlled the game from the tip to the final horn. The defense was in sync and limited the Bulldogs opportunity to score all game. Eaton Rapids had balanced scoring with Bronson Sysum scoring 14 points, Mason Wichman getting 13 points and Griffin Gleason adding 9 points.
Eaton Rapids was 14-3 as they prepared to travel to Ionia on Friday, Feb. 28 for a CAAC White Division league game. Tip-off was set for 7:30 p.m.
