Christi Dutcher took the microphone Friday, Dec. 7 to announce what many in attendance at the 3rd Annual John Gaedert Generosity Celebration had hoped. Through the generosity of the community, the event had raised enough money to continue with two $1,000 grants for another year.

This year’s event raised nearly $10,000 to add to the Charlotte Generosity endowment fund, continuing the generous work for which the event was originally established.

“It was another great event,” Dutcher said. “We’ve got a couple things to switch up for next year to keep it fresh, but overall I’m pleased.”

Eaton County Treasurer, Bob Robinson and Helping Hands executive director, Phil Grimwood each spoke on the positive impact Charlotte Generosity Fund grants had on their organizations this past year. The Treasurer’s office worked with Housing Services for Eaton County (HSEC) and Olivet College to reach residents in Eaton County who are at risk of tax foreclosure. The collaborative received a $1,000 grant from the Charlotte Generosity Fund this past year, which helped pay for postage to send out mailings to at risk citizens. The mailings provided information on how people could get help to avoid tax foreclosure.

Grimwood said the grant was used to establish a personal care items project within the non-profit. The money was used to provide hygienic products such as toilet paper, soaps, shampoo, razors, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. to clients of Helping Hands along with their household food assistance requests, free of charge.
