Say the word gizzard and immediately you pique people’s curiosity. “What is a gizzard?” “What is it for?” Or inevitably, “you actually eat that?” The gizzard has been the driving force behind an ever-growing festival in Potterville for years and has helped put the community on the national map … more than once.
This year, Gizzard Fest has caught the attention of Noah Cappe, host of the Cooking Channel show, Carnival Eats. The show sends Cappe all over the world, sampling the unique eats found at carnivals, fairs and festivals. Cappe and his show will be in Potterville for Gizzard Fest Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 sampling some of the unusual offerings from three local food vendors — Joe’s Gizzard Wagon, S and S Kettle Corn, and Kate’s Diner.
“We’re going to be featuring our honey, sriracha, caramel, powdered sugar, bacon wrapped, deep fried, mini-donut,” said Joe Bristol, owners of Joe’s Gizzard City and Joe’s Gizzard Wagon. “We’ve been trying to do unique things with our dessert menu, but this will be featured at Joe’s Gizzard Wagon only.”
Joe’s Gizzard Wagon will be parked at Potterville High School on Saturday, June 13.
Joe’s Gizzard City first appeared on national television in 2007 when Guy Fieri brought his Food Network show, Diners, Drive Ins and Dives to Potterville.
“We’re very fortunate to be a part of them both,” Bristol said.
Of course, you can find plenty of the famous gizzards, along with a host of other great food vendors throughout the Potterville community during Gizzard Fest weekend, June 12, 13 and 14.
