The name says it all — music and food. Only, you have to understand the reference. If nothing else, The Rubber Biscuit owner, Tom Bohunsky, is banking on a name that grabs attention.
“I wanted a name that if you drove down the street and saw all of the bars and restaurants, you would say, ‘I have to check that place out,’” Bohunsky said.
So far, it’s done the trick. The bar and grill had everyone asking, “What is the Rubber Biscuit?” when it participated in the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl in March. Bohunsky said he had a couple individuals from Dearborn stop in recently just because they passed by the sign and turned around, stating, “We had to have a drink at the Rubber Biscuit.”
The Rubber Biscuit is a reference to a Blues Brothers song of the same name, made popular in the late 70s by Saturday Night Live’s Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi.
“The song is all about music and food,” Bohunsky said. “That’s my vision for this place — I wanted to have a stage for music and awesome food.”
Since purchasing the former Player’s Lounge in downtown Charlotte, Bohunsky has been working to bring his vision to life. The menu and the restaurant and bar is still in transition — Bohunsky said he is working on a steak sandwich and possible gourmet burritos — but the musical lineup for May and June is set.
Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9, will feature the reggae group, One Love. Paul-O takes the stage Friday, May 15, with Doug Fast taking the stage Saturday, May 16. Krosby is scheduled to perform May 23. I-69 will perform May 29 and 30. Kiss Inc. comes to town June 6. The Electro Cats will perform June 19, and Doug Fast returns to The Rubber Biscuit on June 20. Bobby Standall finishes out the month on June 27.
Bohunsky said DJ Trivia will start soon on Tuesday evenings, and every Thursday will be Ladies Night and feature a DJ.
