Joyce W. Banks-Sergent
Joyce Willine Banks-Sergent, of Charlotte, Mich., passed from this earth and entered Heaven on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Mrs. Sergent was born in Hastings, Mich., to Robert “Bob” and Lell Victoria “Vicky” (Valondry) Banks. She married Dennis Sergent in Lansing, Mich., and they lived in the Lansing area most of their lives. Joyce graduated from Maple Valley High School with the Class of ‘65, before moving to Lansing. She worked in State Government with the Department of Natural Resources, Social Services, and Treasury, before retiring in 2004.
Joyce, a “coal miner’s daughter,” will be remembered as a woman of tremendous faith, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and delightful friend. She loved to laugh and entertain with her great sense of humor. Above all else in the world, she loved her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and never wanted to be anywhere but with them.
Mrs. Sergent was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bobby, in 1955; and a sister, Elsie, in 1996.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; beloved daughter, Kristine (Matt) Malaski of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Matthew (Bethany) Malaski of Mooresville, N. Car., Bryant (Michelle) Malaski of Cumming, Ga., and Miss Ashley Malaski of Glendale, Cal.; two great-grandchildren, Thomas James Malaski and Ellie Marie Malaski. Further, she is survived by three sisters, Jayne (Charley) Scott of Beaulaville, N. Cal., Elizabeth “Libby” (Jack) Hughes of Yellville, Ark., and Kathy (Gary) Morales of Potterville, Mich., as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear family and friends.
Funeral service were held on Friday, April 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church of Charlotte with Rev. Jim Eggert and Rev. Mark Gawura officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A graveside service followed at Lakeview Cemetery, Nashville, Mich.
