Steven Wesley Lewis
Steven Wesley Lewis, age 64, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Robert Donald Lewis and Shirley Francis (Schwab) Lewis. Steve grew up in Wyoming, Michigan, and graduated from Kellogsville High School. He obtained his associates degree from LCC and his accident reconstruction certification from MSU. He served as a Sheriff’s Deputy for Allegan, Cass, and finally landed in Calhoun County, where he spent most of his career. He retired due to health issues. Steve enjoyed trips to the U.P. and especially hanging out at the cabin at Buckeye Lake. He enjoyed thrift shopping and finding “treasures” for his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lewis, his mother, Shirley (Schwab) Lewis, and sister, Kathy Lewis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly; daughters Alaina and Audrey Lewis; son, Steven Lewis; grandson Micah Sheridan; step-daughter Elizabeth (Westley) Rutherford; step-son Matthew (Jessica) Corliss; step-grandchildren whom he adored: Noelle and Brynlee Corliss, Owen, Gavin, and Emma Rutherford; and siblings Robert (Gloria) Lewis, Wayne (Cindy) Lewis, and Vicki (Rick) Krahn.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Springport Bible Church with Pastor Matt Rohde officiating. The family received friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home.

Michael McCarty
Michael McCarty, age 77, of Charlotte, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on May 7, 2025.
Mike was a man who lived life with purpose, warmth, and humor. He spent his career as a dedicated plumber with Local Union 333, where his craftsmanship and work ethic earned the respect of many. Beyond the job site, he made a lasting impact as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America, guiding young men with patience, wisdom, and a spirit of adventure.
Mike’s passions were as big as his heart. He had a love for growing an enormous amount of tomato plants in his garden, often turning his bounty into jars of home-canned goodness that would last through the winter. He loved to cook in quantities large enough to feed a small army, always ready to share a meal with family and friends. His culinary skills were legendary, especially when it came to his world-famous ribs, which he would proudly serve at his annual Memorial Day celebration, bringing everyone together with laughter and great food.
A lifelong cribbage enthusiast, Mike could often be found playing hours-long games with his brother John or his wife Suzie, whom he lovingly taught the game. He also spent many years as a hot air balloon chaser working as part of the crew always eager to help out and revel in the adventure of it all. Mike had a knack for finding the best breakfast spots and shared his discoveries with anyone lucky enough to join him.
He was also a man with style, a snazzy dresser for a big guy, he always made an impression with his sharp appearance. His creative side showed in his hobby of crafting unique walking sticks, each one a testament to his appreciation of nature and craftsmanship.
Mike’s storytelling was a gift, he could weave a tale with humor, warmth, and vivid detail that made everyone feel like they were part of the adventure. His stories were often filled with laughter and lessons, and he could keep a crowd entertained for hours.
Mike’s love of beagles was unwavering, and he always had at least one, if not many, by his side. He will be sorely missed by his pet beagle, Lucy. He also had a special fondness for Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. Suzie and he would frequently load the truck, including Lucy, and head north on long weekend road trips.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne (Suzie) McCarty; his sister Dora Boody; his brothers Wayne McCarty, John McCarty (and wife Cindy); and special nephews Joe McCarty and Cyrus Prame; and many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, John L. McCarty and Dorothy A. McCarty (Clark).
Mike will be remembered for his generosity, his sense of humor, his loving spirit, and his ability to bring people together over a card game, a shared meal, or a road trip to a favorite diner.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local scouting organization or animal rescue in his honor.

Jean Ann Warner
Jean Ann (“Juana”) Warner, of Eaton Rapids, passed away on May 12, 2025, one day after her 92nd birthday.
Juana was born in Lansing on May 11, 1933, to Carl and Helen Heinowski. She graduated from Resurrection High School in 1951 and went on to attend Michigan State Normal School, now Eastern Michigan University.
Juana married Robert Warner of Lansing in 1954. They moved to Eaton Rapids and enjoyed a 58-year marriage, raising five children and playing an active role in the community. Among many acts of service, Juana was a member of the Eaton Rapids School Board for more than a decade, and co-founded Humpty Dumpty Preschool on Kinneville Road with her dear friend, Judy Allswede.
She loved learning and creating. After taking Spanish classes, Jean became known as “Juana” to all who knew her well. Juana loved to travel and experience different cultures. She was an accomplished artist who created beautiful gardens, paintings, sculpture and pottery. In the mornings you would often find her strolling through her garden with her coffee, delighting in the daily changes that were unfolding.
Everyone who met Juana was captivated by her easy charm and quick smile. She enjoyed life, and made sure those around her did too.
Jean is survived by her son, Bruce Warner of Eaton Rapids; daughters, Carole (Oz) Warner of Portland, OR.; Patsy (Mark) Baker of Eaton Rapids; Meg (Stephen) Higham of Eaton Rapids; and grandchildren, Robert (Heather) Baker, Bailey (Jon) Kaletka and Kyla Warner. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Helen Heinowski; her husband Robert Warner; son, Mychal Warner; brothers, Bud and Tom Heinowski, and sister, Alice Wren Thomson.
Grateful thanks to everyone at Island City Assisted Living for taking such good care of Juana. She loved being part of the ICAL community.

Elaine Francine Yodzevicis
Elaine Francine Yodzevicis, of Eaton Rapids, passed away May 12, 2025, at the age of 78. Elaine was born in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1946, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Novak) Kozak. Elaine was a gifted beautician in the community for many years. She had a passion for sewing and crafts, finding contentment in creating beauty with her hands. Her eye for shopping sales was unmatched. An animal lover at heart, Elaine’s fondness for dogs was pure and heartwarming. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she relished every moment spent in their company. As a proud member of the Red Hat Society and the Women Working Wonders of Eaton Rapids, Elaine thrived in the camaraderie of her peers. Her happiest days were often spent traveling to her beloved cottage on Island Lake in between Mio and Rose City.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Karl Yodzevicis of Eaton Rapids; daughter, Kristy (Rick) Acker of Eaton Rapids; daughter-in-law, Shannon Yodzevicis of Gaylord; grandchildren, Jack Yodzevicis, Ethan Yodzevicis, Skylar Yodzevicis, Vann Acker, Kyra Acker, Trey Acker; sister, Nancy (Dick) Yanosky; sister-in-law, Susan Lupinetti. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kirk Yodzevicis.

Diane Rachelle Johnson
Diane Rachelle Johnson of Eaton Rapids,at the age of 79, Diane was reunited with her husband, John, who passed away April 30, 2025. She passed away May 8, 2025, knowing that her beloved family was by her side. Diane was born in Plymouth, IN on July 22, 1945, the daughter of Leal and Annabell (Dexter) Long. She worked for Eaton Rapids Medical Center for 22 years before retiring. Diane was a people-person that enjoyed having company. She played many games of Bingo, Rook, Rummy, Euchre, and Domino’s with her friends and family. Diane was a college football enthusiast and enjoyed watching professional golf tournaments. Throughout her life Diane always had a dog by her side as a companion, Cocoa sat on her lap for the last 10 years up until her final moments where they shared laughs and Pepsi. Diane was a woman of kindness and generosity who will forever be remembered for her loving nature and passion for her family.
Diane is survived by her children, Randy, Rick, Tamara (Derrick), Timothy and Theodore Johnson; daughter-in-law, Rebekah; grandchildren, Brittany, Rachelle, Autumn (Nate) Emily, Benjamin, Jachob, Tyler, Maya, Johnathon, Collin and Cooper; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Steadson and Braxton; sisters, Betty (Jerry) Hummel, Joan Klingerman; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Thomas; brother, Robert Long; sister, Cindy Long.

Daniel Fauntley Snapp
Daniel Fauntley Snapp of Onondaga, passed away on May 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Daniel was born in Mason, Michigan on April 28, 1943, the son of Warren and Druscilla (Meabon) Snapp. He dedicated over six decades of his life to the craft of gunsmithing, a trade that earned him respect and admiration from all who knew him. On June 17, 1960, Daniel married the love of his life, Virginia, and together they raised four children. He was a lifetime member of the Lion’s Club in Mason. In his free time, Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Virgina Snapp of Onondaga; children, Kenneth (Jerroll Bont) Snapp of Knoxville, TN, Steven (Lisa) Snapp of Mason, Cynthia (Steve) Coy of Cedar Springs, Wendy (John) Briggs of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, David Lennox, Erin Andrews (Brice), Kristen Snapp (Blaze), Jamie Austin (Barry), John Coy (Mallory), Kellie Coy, Stacy Parfett (Reese), Joe Coy, Katie Coy, Jesse Coy, Ethan Coy, Spencer Coy, Titus Coy, Hayley Briggs (Mike), Tiffany Brunner (Todd), Jacob Ireland (Emily), Clay Briggs (Kristyn), Keenan Briggs, Bethany Briggs (Thomas) and 22 great grandchildren; sister, Kay Soderberg; beloved dog Bailey. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert Joseph Webb, Sr.
Robert Joseph Webb, Sr. age 86, of Onondaga, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025. He was born on February 14, 1939, in Tompkins Township, the son of Claudy and Lucille (McQuillin) Webb.
A 1957 graduate of Springport High School, Robert began his working life shortly after graduation. Over the years, he held positions with the local telephone company, Gullivers Hatchery, Eaton Rapids Hospital, and ultimately spent 28 years with Consumers Energy before retiring in 1995. Just before his retirement, Robert returned to his roots, farming the land where he was born and spent his entire life. He found great joy in working the soil, hunting on his property, and keeping a well-tended lawn.
Deeply connected to his community, Robert served as a scout leader and T-ball coach in Springport. He also cherished camping trips throughout Michigan with family and friends, creating many lasting memories along the way.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janice Webb; brothers, Robert and Tom Webb; and sister, Barbara Hawes.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Glenda (Newsom) Webb; children, Sandy (Jerry) Schroll, Jeanette (Dean) Dyer, and Robert (Candy Skinner) Webb, Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Webb and Mary Hiesler; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Those who wish to honor his memory are invited to make donations to Pope United Methodist Church or the VFW National Home for Children.

Betty Louise Drinkwater
Betty Louise (Adams) Drinkwater, age 84, of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, formerly of Springport, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 30, 2025, in the care of Henry Ford Hospice House, with her loved ones by her side.

John Raymond Johnson
John Raymond Johnson, 78, of Eaton Rapids passed peacefully at home with loved ones on April 30, 2025. Born September 25, 1946, in Halo, Kentucky to Johnathon and Margret Johnson. He was a devoted husband to Diane (Long) Johnson since December 4, 1965, and loving father to six children. John was a hardworking and dedicated tool & die maker at General Motors for 30 years until his retirement in 2006. Despite his many responsibilities, John always made time for his family and passions such as car shows, attending auctions, playing poker, a nice motorcycle ride, and the occasional round of golf. Above all, John’s favorite pastime was sitting beside his beloved wife of 59 years, waiting for company to stop by which many people often did.
John is survived by his wife, Diane; children Randy, Rick, Tamara (Derrick), Timothy and Theodore; grandchildren, Brittany, Rachelle, Autumn (Nate), Emily, Benjamin, Jachob, Tyler, Maya, Johnathon, Collin and Cooper; great-grandchildren Jaxon, Steadson and Braxton. John was preceded in death by his son, Thomas; parents, Johnathon and Margret; siblings James, Nell, Joel, Faye, Leon; and many dear friends. John was a man of integrity and kindness who will forever be remembered by his sense of humor and storytelling.

George DeVries
George DeVries, age 87, of Charlotte, Michigan, met his heavenly Father on Friday, April 25, 2025. Family was by his side during his last hours while in comfort care at the hospital due to complications related to congestive heart failure.
George DeVries was born at home on August 31, 1937, to Klaas and Fintje (Hoogenveen) DeVries in Ureterp (Friesland) Netherlands.
He was the youngest of 10 children. George’s family was closely involved in the Dutch resistance during World War II.
As a teen, George dreamed to immigrate to America like a third of his older siblings had done already. At age 19, in February 1957, he embarked on a 10-day journey across the Atlantic on the Zuiderkruis emigrant ship. He traveled alone and legend has it he had only $30 in his pocket. He ported in Hoboken, New Jersey.
George first worked as a milk hand on dairy farms in New Jersey and also for three years in Southern California.
Then he served in the United States Army (1961-1964). After six weeks of basic training, he returned to Europe and served his time with the Army in Stuttgart, Germany. In time, George learned conversational English and became a citizen of the USA in 1965, of which he was very proud.
He married Gert (Valkema) DeVries, the love of his life, on August 18, 1965, in Sussex, New Jersey.
They both were from the providence of Friesland and could speak Frisian, Dutch, and English to each other. They were married for fifty-nine years.
George was a second-generation butcher and owned DeVries Meats in Newton, New Jersey. George and Gert then moved with their four children to Charlotte, Michigan, in 1982. George operated Card’s Food Locker in Eaton Rapids from 1982 -1989.
George was very handy, and he transformed their pole barn into a seasonal deer processing business. From 1991–2011 George and Gert operated George’s Game Processing. George was known for making savory venison jerky and a variety of smoked sausages.
During those years on the off seasons, George and Gert spent many winters in Navarre Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed fishing. They also did mission work including a few summers at Camp Fahola in Grass Lake, MI, and a trip to Hawaii and Florida with the Assemblies of God RV Volunteers. They also went on two short-term mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Belize. George also went with a church group on a bold mission trip to Moscow, Russia, in 1992.
George was known for his dry sense of humor, storytelling, work ethic, loyalty to family, and unshakable faith in Jesus. He had a heart for the prison ministry and Gideon ministry.
George is survived by his wife Gert DeVries; his 4 children: Heidi (Buck) Hagy of Bath, MI, Kevin DeVries of Grand Rapids, MI, Walter (Kerrie) DeVries of Millville, PA, Felicia (Aaron) Almanza of Oak Forest, IL; his 11 grandchildren, Nate (Ciana) Hagy, Miah (Ben) Cook, Zach Hagy, Luke Hagy, Jack DeVries, Emma DeVries, Levi (Sarah) DeVries, Sam DeVries, Anne DeVries, and Amelia and Abigail Almanza; his 2 great grandsons, Grayson and Beckham Cook; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and multiple nephews and nieces in the Netherlands, Canada, and the USA. His nine siblings and parents preceded him in death.
George’s family would like to acknowledge the compassionate comfort care George received during his last days at U of M Sparrow Eaton in Charlotte. We are forever grateful to the care team.
A celebration of life will be held at Lakeside Chapel, 5800 Park Lake Road, Bath, Michigan 48808, on Saturday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will follow at the Hagy Homestead in Bath.
Cremation has taken place per George’s wishes.
