Priscilla Joan Winters
Priscilla Joan Winters of Grand Ledge passed away on December 17, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on August 21, 1935, in Hastings, Michigan, she was the daughter of Forest and Etoral (Tift) Smith.
She is survived by her children Becky (Steve) Yoder, Leigh (Jeff) Johnson, Jim (Linda) Winters, and Mary Winters; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Kimberly (Eric) DeSmet (Colin, Wesley), Erin (Anthony) Gancer (William, Emmeline, Timothy, Jonathan, Edmund), Jacob (Katlyn) Winters (Harrison, Helen), Adam (Katie) Johnson (Zoey, Lily), Joshua (Megan) Winters (Sadie, Forrest, Millie), and Mikel Haggadone (Audrey Drotos); and her best friend and Sister-in-Christ “Aunt” Pastor Judy Scholten.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lester, and their infant son Robert; her parents and siblings Don Smith, Mildred Dillingham, Vernon Smith, Chuck Smith, Sally VanHouten, and Linford Smith.
“Percy” was a graduate of Hastings High School class of 1953. She completed her remaining courses in 1970 as an adult learner and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow classmates. Retirement came after 28 years of retail customer service at Montgomery Ward in the Lansing Mall.
In retirement she volunteered at the Open-Door Ministry of Central United Methodist Church of Lansing, assisted with music classes at Holbrook Elementary, enjoyed traveling the U.S. by motorcoach, took a solo trip to the UK, and celebrated her 80th on a cruise to Alaska. She was active at Mulliken United Methodist Church helping with church dinners and giving rides to friends who could no longer drive. Priscilla loved singing and sharing music with residents at care facilities. She had an amazing way of spontaneously singing a hymn or show tune appropriate for whatever situation she was in. She would dote on babies.
Most precious to Priscilla were her steadfast faith, her growing family, the family sesquicentennial organic farm, lifelong country neighbors, and Gracie kitty.
Family feels tremendous gratitude for the care and affection for “Pri-silly” given by staff and residents at Portland Assisted Living and Memory Center, and Optimal Care Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, 11 a.m. at Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, 301 E. Jefferson, Grand Ledge, MI 48837 with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Internment will take place at Danby Township Cemetery followed by fellowship and luncheon at Mulliken Masonic Temple.
