Russell Patrick Olejownik
Russell Patrick Olejownik of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, following a short illness. He was 69 years old.
Russ was born on March 17, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, to Roland and Ruth (Budy) Olejownik. He was raised in Toledo and graduated from Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1975. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University.
Russ dedicated his life to education and spent his entire professional career serving students and schools. He began his career in Texas before moving to Coldwater, Michigan, where he taught and coached the high school girls’ basketball team to an undefeated season. He later settled in Eaton Rapids, where he spent the remainder of his career.
Russ served as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Eaton Rapids Middle School, then as Principal at both Lockwood Elementary School, and Greyhound Intermediate School.
A devoted Michigan State Spartan fan, Russ enjoyed gardening, watching storms roll in from the porch, and spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed trips to the casino with his wife, Nancy. Nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his beloved granddaughter, Penelope, particularly their fishing adventures together.
Russ also loved traveling with his family. He and Nancy enjoyed visiting the East Coast, and together they made many cherished memories during family trips to Florida and Disneyworld.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Flechsig) Olejownik; daughters, Rebecca Olejownik and Kristina Olejownik; granddaughter, Penelope Olejownik; brother, Christopher (Kim) Olejownik; sisters, Laura (Mike) Miller and Julie (Todd) Shultz; special friends, Bruce and Deb VanAken; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
