Charlotte Community Library “imagined new stories” with 171 participants this past summer as a part of our annual Summer Reading Program. A total of 63 adults and 108 young people went on a journey that included three stops along the way. Adults were challenged to read 40 hours and as a group logged 1,885 hours. Kids birth to preschool were challenged to read 90 books each. They read a total of 1,738 books. Kids entering kindergarten to 12th grade were challenged to read for 40 hours and read for a total of 2,659 hours.
We had an extra reading challenge for students in elementary to high school. The top read received a $50 gift card to a restaurant in Charlotte. The winner read for 219 hours.
Youth and adults who completed at least two journey stops were entered into a drawing to win one of the grand prizes. Adult prizes included a massage from Al!ve, a Kindle Fire, as well as gift certificates to The Hen House, Yarn Garden, and Schuler Books. Youth grand prizes included a $100 gift card to Barnes and Noble, a hoverboard, and a Hogwarts Clock Tower LEGO set.
Additionally, we had 433 individuals join our limited summer programs. These programs were done mostly virtually, but a few in-person with social distancing and masks. These programs even included craft kit pick-ups.
A big THANK YOU also goes out to Dairy Queen, Eaton Theatre, Evelyn Bay, Red Rosie’s Bakery, Subway, and Taco Bell for being a part of our program. Next time you stop in at one of these businesses, let them know how much you appreciate them being a supporter of the Summer Reading Program.
