Charlotte sophomore Tyler Densmore capped off an outstanding wrestling season with a state runner-up finish in Division 2 at 150 pounds at the MHSAA Individual Wrestling State Finals held at Ford Field.
Densmore finished the season with an impressive 48–2 record, battling through a competitive bracket to reach the championship match and solidify his place among the top wrestlers in Michigan in his weight class.
For Densmore, the performance marked a significant step forward from last season. As a freshman, he qualified for the state tournament and placed sixth overall. Just one year later, he returned to the state stage and improved his standing by four spots to finish second.
“As a sophomore it felt good to be able to get the chance to go to the state meet this year,” Densmore said. “It wasn’t my first time. I took sixth place last year as a freshman.”
Densmore credited his preparation throughout the offseason and the intensity of practices during the season for helping him reach the finals.
“I prepared by working hard all summer for this tournament, going harder at practices and getting in more practices,” he said.
Competing at the state tournament was a rewarding experience for the Charlotte wrestler, who said the moment reflected the effort he had put into the sport.
“Competing at the state meet was very exciting to me,” Densmore said. “It makes me feel like my hard work paid off even more.”
Reaching the championship match and standing on the podium was a highlight of the season for Densmore, who said the experience will motivate him moving forward.
“Being in the state finals was my favorite moment this wrestling season,” he said. “Being on the podium felt awesome. I can’t wait to be back next season.”
With two more years of high school wrestling ahead of him, Densmore has already demonstrated both the talent and dedication needed to compete among Michigan’s best once again.
