Andromeda Community Theatre (ACT) is pleased to announce its full schedule for the 2016 season.
Following up the productions of Love Letters, which premiered in February, ACT’s second production of the season, Lend Me A Tenor, by playwright Ken Ludwig will premier in June.
Lend Me A Tenor is a lively, clever comedic farce centering on one memorable night of opera in Cleveland. Andromeda’s own Frank Boston will be making his directorial debut. Frank is fresh off his stint as assistant director for the extremely well received Love Letters. Once again, The Eaton Area Senior Center in Charlotte will be graciously hosting the production. Show dates will be June 10 through 12 and the June 19 (a dinner show).
In September, Andromeda Community Theatre will perform Margaret Edson’s moving drama Wit. Wit focuses on a college professor’s observations and life recollections as she undergoes experimental treatment to combat her stage-five ovarian cancer. Simultaneously funny, sad and harrowing, Wit does not fail to leave an impression. Due to its emotional content, Wit is recommended for mature audiences. A portion of the proceeds of every performance will be donated to cancer research or to support local families affected by cancer.
Auditions will be held in late June or early July. The shows will take place at Windwalker Arts & Underground Galleries in Charlotte. ACT is currently in discussions with HGB Memorial Hospital to hold a special performance at that location. Wit will be directed by Andromeda co-founder, Andrew Hipkiss.
The conclusion of ACT’s first full season will be its biggest and boldest production to date — Charles Dickens’s classic and Broadway hit, “A Christmas Carol! The Musical,” directed by Sarah Shoemaker of Sing Studios and Vermontville’s The Revue fame. Sarah has also directed shows at Maple Valley Schools. A 2011 graduate of CMU’s musical education department, Sarah brings with her a world of experience and fresh ideas to this classic holiday musical. A Christmas Carol will require a very large cast, including lots of children, which means Andromeda expects to see plenty of new faces at auditions come mid-September. Performances will be at the Charlotte Performing Arts Center the first weekend in December.
