Budding Americana singer/ songwriter to perform in Charlotte

On the evening of Saturday, April 21, Americana singer/songwriter Charly Markwart will bring her brand of original music to the stage of Windwalker Underground Gallery in downtown Charlotte.

A native of Charlotte, Markwart is an emerging artist in the Americana genre. Last fall, she was selected to perform a showcase of her music at the highly acclaimed Americanafest in Nashville, Tenn. Recently, Markwart scored the Song of the Year in the Americana category of the 19^th annual Great American Song Contest with her song, “In Mother Maybelle’s Hands.”

As she promotes her new CD, “No Direction Home”, the past year has been a busy time for Markwart. In addition to live show dates, she has been active with several live radio appearances across the Midwest and Southeast.

Although she remains an independent artist, Nashville song publishers have expressed interest in Markwart’s ability to craft songs that hit home with the listener. Currently, she is receiving airplay for her singles “Who’s Gonna Close the Show?” and “Here Come the Blues All Over,” both off her new CD.

At the Windwalker show, Markwart will be accompanied by an outstanding trio of acoustic musicians. The show promises great songs and an appealing blend of Americana music.

“I’ve worked hard to develop my music from the roots and grow it into my own style,” Markwart said. “Authenticity is important to me. I try to write songs that the everyday person can relate to.”

At the Windwalker show, Markwart will be joined by Charlotte singer/songwriter Dale Dixon, who will also perform a set. Dixon is an accomplished country/folk performer, having toured the Midwest circuit for more than 20 years.

“Dale is such a talented artist,” Markwart said. “Each of us will perform a one-hour set. I think it will be a great combination.”

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8. Windwalker Underground Gallery is located at 125 S. Cochran Avenue in downtown Charlotte.
