Captain’s Cabinetry is a complete kitchen and bath showroom located in downtown Charlotte. The spacious showroom is filled with beautiful design inspirations to get you started with creating your own dream kitchen or bath, with a variety of possibilities and price ranges.

You’ll find cabinets from seven different manufacturers, with a huge selection of colors and designs at Captain’s Cabinetry. They will work with any budget to provide entry-level styles all the way up to custom designs. In the near future, another cabinet supplier is expected to join the lineup, which will provide even more design options.

Paul Wilson, the owner of Captain’s Cabinetry, has done construction since he was eight years old, he explained, working and learning with his father on the job. This led him to start his own business as a carpenter and licensed builder, and then he started the kitchen business in 2006. As the business grew he moved to its current location at 136 South Cochran in 2017.

The two-story building in the heart of Charlotte that houses the business was built before 1886, according to research, and it served as a leading men’s clothing and haberdashery store until about 1957. Wilson has done numerous renovations to the building, including restoring the original 12-foot-tall tin ceiling.

“It’s the ambiance,” Wilson said when speaking with pride about his building and showroom. “It provides a relaxed atmosphere for customers to make their choices and envision what their new kitchen or bath could look like.”

“With our lifetime of experience in remodeling,” Wilson added, “we are here to make your home your favorite place to be!”

Why chose Captain’s Cabinetry over other options, including do-it-yourself?  “Our organizational skills and our quality products are big selling points for us,” Wilson explained. “We do what we say we’re going to do. We work with a job site agenda and cater to the customer.”

Despite COVID-19’s impact, Wilson says they are keeping very busy this year with new kitchens and baths. “We are available for people’s needs, and we are very careful in everything we do.”

“Our summer schedule is looking very positive,” he added. The area they serve extends about an hour out from Charlotte in any direction.

One big change happening at Captain’s Carpentry is the addition of another member to the team. Wilson’s wife, Karen, is retiring from Eaton Community Bank and will be helping supplement their business starting in May.

Last September Wilson was presented with the 2020 Clyde A. Fulton Community Pride Award from the Charlotte Rotary Club. This award recognized his community service and dedication to helping others. Wilson has served on the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, has been a member of Charlotte Rising since it started, has served on the Downtown Development Authority, and has been a member of Rotary for over 30 years.

After developing an interest in aviation, he became a pilot and eventually a certified FAA Flight Instructor, which led to his nickname of “Captain”, and consequently helped him to come up with his business name.
