The Village of Vermontville will be bustling with activity Aug. 20 when the first Vermontville Day takes over. A fire department water ball tournament, car show, live music, food and many other activities are planned for the inaugural event.
Lois Hammonds is part of the team at the Vermontville United Methodist Church that is organizing the day and said the idea came from the outreach team during a meeting at Lisa’s Café. What began as a cruise-in has blossomed into a full day of activities. Although she has done much of the legwork for the project, Hammonds is quick to point the spotlight on others who have helped coordinate the many facets of the event.
“Truthfully, I believe the Lord has led this process and brought it all together as it has just kind of fallen into place. But all credit needs to go to the United Methodist Outreach Team and Lisa’s Café,” commented Hammonds.
Many organizations have jumped on board and will take part in the day’s events. The Vermontville Congregational Church will host a sloppy joe dinner, the Lions Club is bringing in the Ezy Street Band for a concert in the park from 1 to 3 p.m., the Vermontville Village Council will be on-hand for a meet and greet with free hot dogs and the fire department will put on a waterball tournament next to the village garage. With kids games, specials at local restaurants, and more, the day promises to be full of fun and festivities.
“We are really hoping to bring people into Vermontville to see what a lovely, quaint village we have and to spend the day getting to know the people here,” remarked Hammonds.
The group is planning to make the day an annual event and more information can be found at the United Methodist Church Facebook page or by emailing Hammonds at hammondslois@yahoo.com.
