Travelling along old U.S. Highway 27 passing through Olivet, many of us have visited the picturesque Pine Lake before. A fun way to kick off summer, Pine Lake Resort hosts a Free Fishing Weekend every year. This year on June 8 and 9, Pine Lake Resort will be celebrating its impressive 80-year anniversary.

As the only bait and tackle shop in the area and nestled on their own lake, Pine Lake Resort has brought lots of laughs and fun to many students and families offering swimming, camping, and fishing over the years. In near proximity to the University of Olivet, the lake has served as a place where college students can come out and enjoy their time on the lake. “Pine Lake will always figure prominently in every Olivet student’s memoir. The early breakfasts beside its placid surface, the twilight canoe rides, the picnic on the island, the glorious swims in it… Olivet would not be complete without it,” writes the class of 1961 Olivet College seniors who made that dedication to Pine Lake in their yearbook.

Next weekend you can enjoy live music and karaoke, volleyball, vendors, face painting, a bonfire and free ice cream, food truck, yard games, and much more at Pine Lake Resort! Festivities will kick off Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with a kids’ fishing contest for ages five to ten and there will be prizes to win. Adults, do not feel left out, because following the kids’ fishing contest there is a kayak race scheduled that is available for all ages, so you can be a part of the fun, too.

The celebration will be even more special as there will be a presentation honoring Pine Lake Resort with a historical plaque. The dedication of this plaque to the resort will serve as a sign of the past and a legacy for the future, as more fun times are to be had at Pine Lake and Pine Lake Resort.

Come for the day, the weekend, or plan a longer stay! Pine Lake Resort is located at 9930 Marshall Road in Olivet. To reserve a campsite for great summertime memories on Pine Lake, call 269-419-1161.
