The Charlotte High School Choirs earned high ratings at the MSVMA Region VIII District Choral Festival. All three Charlotte choirs received ratings ranging from a good Division II to a Division I perfect score.
The women’s Chamber Choir performed “Chi La Gagliarda” by Baldassare Donato and “Wake Me a Song” by Andrea Ramsey. Chamber Choir earned the highest rating of Division I Excellent including a near perfect score of 28 of 30 possible points in sight-reading. Comments from judges included, “lovely free tone and balance” and “great poise, preparation and literature.”
The mixed-voice Varsity Choir performed “Sanctus” by Wolfgang A. Mozart and “Dreams of Thee” by Eric William Barnum, accompanied by Emma Bartley on violin. The 2014-2015 school year marks Varsity Choir’s third appearance at the MSVMA Choir Festival. Varsity Choir earned a Division II Good’ rating overall, with comments such as, “beautiful blend throughout the choir,” “great commitment to musical expression,” and “great attention to director throughout the entire performance.”
The mixed-voice Chorale performed “Jubilate Deo” by Peter Anglea and “Great Day” by Warren Martin. Chorale earned the highest possible rating of Division I Excellent including a perfect 30 of 30 possible points in sight-reading. Comments from judges included, “Nice energy and vigor throughout the ensemble” and “Beautiful dynamic contrast and tall vowels.”
The Charlotte High School Choirs were accompanied by Mrs. Nancy Hoskins, under the direction of Mrs. Bethany Zeuch. Mrs. Zeuch would like to thank the choir parents and adult chaperones, as well as the choir students for their hard work.
