There is some debate as to the level of community pride that has existed in the Charlotte community over the course of the last decade or so. What is more difficult to debate, however, is the steady rise in community spirit.
Charlotte Public Schools has played a pivotal role in that rise, especially since its Flight Club boosted school spirit throughout the district and community over the course of the last few years.
In recognition of how far the community has come, a number of residents came together with the plan of doing something special that would demonstrate the level of Charlotte Pride that lives within this community.
Working with the school district, this group of individuals reached out to local businesses in an effort to raise funds for a fireworks display following Charlotte High School’s final home game of the season — Oct. 13 against Lakewood.
“The response was overwhelming, and with all the support, a small fireworks display turned in to a big one,” said John Dykstra, who partnered with Jim Cicorelli and Joel Fox to plan the event. “This is something we hope to be able do every year.”
In addition to the fireworks display following the varsity football game, the Charlotte Rotary Club’s Satellite Club is sponsoring a community tailgate at the Charlotte High School pavilion, beginning at 5 p.m. The football game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. The Charlotte Middle School and Charlotte High School marching bands will perform a special halftime show.
The game will also serve as an opportunity to recognized CHS senior athletes and senior band members. Cicorelli said his initial thoughts behind the event were to a create a special memory for members of the CHS senior class.
There will be a special community recognition as well.
“Come out Friday, Oct. 13 and show your support,” Dykstra said. “Our goal is to pack the stadium and finish it with a wonderful fireworks show.”
