Thanks to a recent partnership between PNC Bank’s Grow Up Great program and Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital, more than 150 young preschool and kindergarten students were exposed to a unique learning experience.
PNC’s mobile planetarium made a stop at AL!VE on Monday, Oct. 28 to treat children to “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” planetarium show. The show teaches children about the basic principles of math, geometry and physics.
“This is a great opportunity that PNC actually made available to us,” said Barbara Fulton, director of community development at Hayes Green Beach. “Since we applied and were accepted to be a site for PNC’s Grow Up Great program, it has cleared the way for similar programs in the future.”
Part of the appeal of the Grow Up Great program for PNC is that it allows local branch employees the opportunity to volunteer in their community while receiving paid time off to do so. Additionally, if an employee completes 40 hours of volunteer time, they can earn a $1,000 grant to the local Grow Up Great early childhood education partner.
“Kudos to PNC, they were very proactive in making this possible,” Fulton said. “The partnership is a perfect fit with AL!VE because we have GROW right here. A few of the groups were so large that half the children were able to participate while the other half could enjoy GROW.”
