Get ready for a summer filled with adventure, creativity, and nonstop fun! The City of Eaton Rapids is launching its first-ever summer day camp, running from July 7 through August 15. Designed for kids ages five to 12, the camp offers a mix of themed activities to spark imagination, build confidence, and encourage teamwork and life skills in a safe, supportive environment.

The camp runs Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is based at Howe Memorial Park with drop-off and pick-up at the Knight Street Amphitheater. In case of inclement weather, campers will be relocated to the Middle School gym. Families who register for all six weeks receive a discount.

Each week, campers will embark on a new themed adventure, from being “shipwrecked” on a tropical island and learning survival skills, to competing in zany Olympic-style games, striking it rich during Wild West gold panning, and exploring international cultures. With hands-on learning, creative play, a talent show, and a festive luau, this is not just day camp, it is a summer of imagination and discovery.

“Our goal is to create a safe and fun experience for our campers,” said Camp Director Raven Rawson. “We want them to learn, grow, and stay engaged through active and creative experiences, while having a blast!” Rawson serves as a Program Coordinator for the Eaton Rapids Parks Department.

“Raven brings a strong background in outdoor recreation along with years of hands-on experience leading youth camps,” said Corey Cagle, Director of Parks, Recreation & Events for the City of Eaton Rapids. “With Raven at the helm, we’re confident that these camps will be a highlight of the season!”

The camp is partnering with Eaton Rapids Public Schools for swimming and with Eaton Rapids Medical Center to teach basic first aid during “shipwreck” week.

“This camp is an affordable and fun alternative to daycare,” said Rawson. “And it helps kids retain the valuable skills and knowledge that often slip away during summer break.”

“I am excited that we can provide camps for kids this year,” Eaton Rapids Mayor Pam Colestock said. “It is something that our team has been wanting to do for a long time, and they worked very hard to bring this to the community.”

Staff training begins soon, and Rawson noted that one team member is specially trained to support children with special needs. The camp is fully licensed and state-inspected, promising a summer to remember, so do not wait to register!
