Laurence Russell Galvin


Laurence Russell Galvin, a happy go lucky man, died on Monday, October 31, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Laurence, 67, of Charlotte, was born October 14, 1955, in Lansing, MI the son of Laurence and Mary (Morris) Galvin. Following graduating from high school Laurence enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country for four years. He worked as a window repairman for Carefree Windows in Charlotte and was known for his handyman skills. Many will remember Laurence for being the center of attention and his ability to get along with just about anyone that he crossed paths with. His hobbies included reading, working on jigsaw puzzles and building model cars.
Laurence is survived by his children, Josh Galvin, and Molly Galvin; three grandchildren, Dayton, Kylee, and Damian; siblings, Steve (Rhonda) Galvin, Wayne Galvin, and Louella (Mike) Hamilton. He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services are Monday, November 7, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Charles Jenson officiating. Holli Hale


It is with heavy hearts we announce Holli Laine Hale, 48, said her earthly goodbye on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Preceding her in death was her mother, Laurie Hale, as well as her grandparents Stan and Lila Green, and Don and Edith Hale, and uncles Dennis and David Hale.
Holli was born in Vermontville, Michigan, on December 22, 1973. Holli had a genuine love of people, would befriend family, friends, and strangers alike and would love them with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind: her children, Colton and Gracen Armstrong; her father, Darryl (Sue) Hale; sister Robin (Matt) Murphy; nieces, Lauren and Leah; and aunts, uncle, and cousins; and her Montana family, Madison Moody and Dennis Morrow.
A Celebration of Life has taken place in Montana and a Celebration will be at the First Congregational Church in Vermontville on November 22, 2022. A luncheon and fellowship will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. followed by a service.

Michael Davis


Michael “Mike” Eugene Davis of Charlotte passed unexpectedly on Friday, October 21, 2022, at age 66. Mike is survived by his wife, Joyce; step-children, Alex (Nikki) Hughes, and Alana (Paul) Ruvolo; grandchildren, Ava, Kiana, Xander, Brody, Dash, and Viviana; siblings, Mitch Davis, and Michella (Michael) Wheat; and his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Reiko Davis.
Mike was born August 15, 1956, in Charlotte, MI, the son of Roy and Reiko (Okano) Davis. A graduate of Charlotte High School and Lansing Community College, Mike worked as a Manufacturing Engineer in the automotive industries and worked for various companies throughout his career.
Mike always cherished time with family and his lifelong friends. He especially loved his time with his wife and long-time companion of 30 years, Joyce (VanDyke) Hughes.
With many passions in life, Mike enjoyed tinkering with his cars and especially time spent with his grandchildren. Mike was known for doing anything the grandchildren asked of him. He loved working on projects and building things for the grandkids – from dollhouses to train tables to bunk beds. Family meant everything to Mike, he was very proud of his Japanese heritage on his mother’s side, and he was known to drop everything to help his parents, sister, and brother with anything they needed. An outgoing, fun-loving man who always enjoyed making people laugh, Mike leaves his family and friends with many beloved stories to cherish, love, remember, and laugh together.

Justin Lee Zenker


Justin Lee Zenker of Eaton Rapids, passed away October 22, 2022, at the age of 42. Justin was born in Eaton Rapids on June 3, 1980, the son of Hal and Joyce (Brecht) Zenker. He graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 2000. At a young age, he fell in love with auto mechanics and ended up being a very good mechanic, one that everyone called. Justin enjoyed hunting and had a passion for fishing. He was very funny, witty, and helpful.
Justin is survived by his parents, Hal and Joyce Zenker; brother, Brandon (Katie) Zenker; nephew, Aidan Zenker; aunts, Beth Moser, Paulette Vance, Kathy Brecht; uncles, Lyle (Debbie) Zenker, Greg Zenker, Dale (Jain) Brecht; cousins, Shasta Delong, Jeremy, Kevin, Andrew and Adam Zenker, Jason Vance and Christi Grinnell; best friends, Mike Norton, Dustin Schlichter and Phil Milligan. He was preceded in death by his uncles, John Moser, Wade Zenker; cousin, Terry Zenker.
Funeral services were Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Mills Funeral Home, Shelly-Odell Chapel with interment following at Clarence Township Cemetery. Virginia May “Ginny” Strahan


Virginia May “Ginny” Strahan, age 95, of Eaton Rapids, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Virginia was born on October 1, 1927, in Hamlin Township, Michigan, the daughter of Clarence and Frances (Harshey) Hall. She was raised in Eaton Rapids where she graduated from high school class of 1945. Virginia was a hard-working woman throughout her life and instilled that work ethic into her children. She worked as a bookkeeper for Ed Cords Well Drilling, the VFW Children’s Home, the Eaton Rapids City Clerk’s Office, Island City Credit Union and for Mills and Andy’s Restaurants in Charlotte, often working multiple jobs while raising six kids. She was a talented artist and loved painting and would paint the black and white and sepia photos for a photo shop in Charlotte. Ginny was a kindhearted soul who had a genuine love for children, when her kids were young, the neighborhood children always knew they could stop by Ginny’s for homemade cookies. She also enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and watching the birds.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; sons, Patrick and Mikel Cords; and her former husband and father of her children, Edwin Cords.
Surviving are her children: Sandra (Gary) Halsey, Kathy Taylor, Colynn (Scott) Kellogg, Edwin Cords, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Janet Cords; grandchildren: Heather (Mark) White, Russell (Dee) Halsey, James Taylor, Jeffrey (Laura) Taylor, Rebecca (Brad) Williams, Jennifer (Scott) Truman, Ian (Brandi) Cords, Brittney (Nate) Clark, Samantha Cords, Mike (Emily) Gault, Matthew (Autumn) Gault; many great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; brothers, Edward (Doris) Hall, Bruce Hall, Neil Hall and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Island City Assisted Living and Elara Caring Hospice for their outstanding care over the past weeks and months.
A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids chapel. Virginia was laid to rest next to her sons in Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.
