Karole Lee Bartlett, 78, a lifelong resident of Charlotte, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Karole was born on November 23, 1946, the daughter of Leland Wendel and Jean (Riddle) Oberlin. She graduated from Charlotte High School in the class of 1964, proudly was an honor roll student and a member of the band. Karole had a career in finance and retired from Carters IGA. During retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband. They spent their winters in Florida with many couples from Charlotte, forming their own little community. Karole was a very proud mother, but an even prouder grandmother. She never missed a chance to share a picture and brag. Karole was known for the love of a good game, whether it be sports, bingo, or cards. When not playing bingo, she could be found glued to the TV during any sporting event. She proudly cheered for the Detroit Lions! Whether it be a scratch off, card hand, or a Sunday football bet, she played with heart, humor, and hope.

Karole is survived by her sons, Shane (Dawn) Bartlett and Eric (Angel) Bartlett; niece, Tina Jo and her children; grandchildren, Makkena, Cameron, Aubrie, Briley, Hunter, Jordan, Aaron, Kaylie, Collin, and Miranda; brothers, Geoff (Diana) Riddle and Dale (Amber) Wendel; sister, Denise Riddle; and cousin, Donis Osborn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy G. Bartlett; daughter, Paula Orel; grandsons, Joseph Orel and Quentin Bartlett; sister and brother-in-law, Barbra and James Rieben.

Clinton Earl “Chick” Harmon went to be with his beloved wife of 63 years, Rosalie, on October 17, 2025. Clinton was born on October 2, 1939. He is also reuniting with his parents and his brother, Theo.

Clinton was the proud father of his four children Darrel (Carol) Harmon, Jim Harmon, Cheryl Harmon, and Dawn (Jay) Harmon. He also leaves behind six grandsons Clinton (Nikita) Harmon, Austin Harmon, Coty Harmon, Michael (Kayla) Harmon, Ethan Harmon, and Shayne Vaughan; two sisters Maxine Coan and Alice Edwards; many nieces and nephews; four great grandchildren; and special nephew Wayne Harmon.

Clinton enjoyed spending time with his family, loved playing with his horses, he was always thrilled to go to the mud bogs with his family, and going on road trips to wherever he landed.

A Memorial will be held at the Springport VFW on November 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with a luncheon immediately following.

J. Samuel Kellogg, Interior Designer, Beloved Brother and Devoted Friend, Dies at 64

James Samuel “Sam” Kellogg, a gifted interior designer whose impeccable taste and radiant personality left a mark from Chicago to Naples, Florida, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois.

Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Michigan, Sam spent most of his adult life in Chicago, where his creativity and spirit made him a cherished member of the city’s design and social circles. His career spanned decades and regions, from elegant homes in Chicago’s northern suburbs to sun-washed retreats on Florida’s Gulf Coast. In every space he touched, he brought a discerning eye and a sense of possibility. He had a vision that could transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Sam was a fashion plate in every sense, favoring fine fabrics, tailored cuts, and the subtle details that spoke to his innate sophistication. Whether designing a room or choosing an outfit or putting together a memorable dinner party, he had an intuitive grasp of harmony, balance, and grace.

Beyond his style and talent, what defined Sam was his spirit. He was a friend of exceptional quality: loyal, generous, and good-humored. His teasing was affectionate and his sense of fun delightfully boyish. He approached the world with curiosity and joy, and his ability to find connection in nearly every situation and with every person made him beloved by all who knew him.

Sam had a gift for creating family wherever he went. To his chosen nieces and nephews, he was the favorite uncle: generous, engaged and always ready with a joke or a surprise. To his friends and clients, he was both confidante and cheerleader, a source of encouragement and light. He had an uncanny ability to make people feel seen, appreciated and loved.

Though life was not without struggle for Sam, he faced hardship with resilience and an amused grace. In recent years, he searched for peace and fulfillment. He will be profoundly missed, as will his affinity for silly nicknames, deadpan critiques, skin care regimes, expensive shoes, finely tuned candor and forgiveness.

Sam is survived by his sister, Sarah Kellogg of Washington, D.C.; his stepsister, Brittany Nay  of Portland, Oregon; his stepfather, Roger Nelson of Grand Ledge, Michigan; his aunt, Ruth Makin of Anaconda, Montana; and his cousin Jesse Makin of Lewistown, Montana. He is also survived by his chosen family that includes many great friends who shepherded him through the tough times and celebrated his joys, as well as their children who thought of him as “Uncle Sam.” He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Nelson; father, James Kellogg; and stepmother, Sharon Kellogg.

Donations in memory of Sam may be made to two organizations that support youth overcoming challenges in our society. Contributions can be directed to GLSEN, which works to ensure safe and inclusive schools for LGBTQ+ youth, or to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, supporting programs that help young people reach their full potential.

The loss of Sam comes as a deep shock to those who knew and loved him. His laughter, his impeccable taste, and his generous heart will leave a void that will not be filled. Details about a celebration of Sam’s life will be shared at a later date.

Martha (Teklinsky) Servinsky, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 18, 2025, just three months shy of celebrating her 100th birthday. She was born on January 10, 1926, to Joseph and Viola (Sponsky) Teklinsky, of proud Polish ancestry.

Martha grew up during the Great Depression, an experience that instilled in her a remarkable sense of determination, faith, and compassion. Those early challenges inspired her strong work ethic and lifelong devotion to providing her family with love, stability, and the opportunity for a Catholic education.

On July 1, 1946, Martha married Joseph Servinsky, and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 1995. Their union was built on faith, love, and family — values Martha carried throughout her life.

She was the devoted mother of Mary Kaye (Chris) Fletcher, Garry (Denise) Servinsky, Janice (Mike) Beck, and JoAnne (Dwight Chambers) Tanner. She cherished her grandchildren: Allison (Jeff) Peake, Christopher Fletcher Jr., Adriana (Chris) Hemzacek, Matthew (Aimee) Fletcher, Marissa (Bryan) Ketelhut, Andrew (Rachel) Beck, Garin Tanner, Katie (Dan) Porter, and Alan (Julie) Tanner. Her joy continued through her great-grandchildren: Megan Peake, Emma Peake, Mary Jane Fletcher, Jesse Johnston, Velma Fletcher, Adalena Ketelhut, Marabel Ketelhut, Bennett Ketelhut, Hunter Hemzacek, Asher Hemzacek, Noah Beck, Elijah Beck, Delilah Beck, Gabriella Beck, and great great grandchild Kailynn Johnston.

Martha is survived by her loving sister Alice Teklinsky, and was preceded in death by siblings Leo Teklinsky, Joseph Teklinsky, Leonard Teklinsky, Patricia Pizer, Amelia Tarwacki, and Francis Teklinsky.

A woman of strong faith, Martha was an active member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Southgate for many years and most recently a member of St. Mary’s Church in Charlotte, Michigan. She also served in the St. Pius Altar Confraternity and found great joy in serving her parish community.

She spent many years employed with the J.L. Hudson Department Store Company in Detroit, Michigan, where she was admired for her dedication and kindness.

Martha will be remembered for her deep faith, boundless love for her family, and the joyful spirit she brought to everyone she met. She lived each day with gratitude and grace, finding her greatest happiness in time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services:

Fred Calvin Good passed away October 15, 2025, at the age of 101. He was born August 27, 1924, to George Lewis Good and Dora Leota (Haines) Good in York Township, Van Wert County, Ohio.   

He was the youngest of five children and was raised on a diversified livestock farm where they raised Shorthorn cattle, hogs, sheep, and horses near Van Wert, Ohio.

He graduated from York High School in 1942. Through his school years, he played basketball and baseball and was active in 4H and FFA. He attended Ohio State University, while there he won the Little International Beef Showmanship contest. 

After that, he worked as a cattle herdsman and showman for several farm operations in Ohio, Illinois, and Mississippi. He would fit and show cattle, riding with them in boxcars to major shows.

He married Judith LuVerne Swick in 1949, in Convoy, Ohio and they were blessed with 75 wonderful years of marriage, teamwork, and partnership. Their journey followed his jobs to Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, back to Ohio, and then settled in Michigan. In 1958, they bought a farm in Charlotte, Michigan where they owned and operated Good Angus Farm for 55 years. They raised and showed registered Angus cattle at many local, state, and national shows. Throughout his life, Fred mentored many new cattle producers to help them improve and grow their business.

He established the annual Dawson–Good Club Calf sale in early 1970s, later to be Good and Associates; which combined, ran for over 40 years.   

Fred and Judy were incredible supporters of 4-H. He was a beef leader for 40 years and also served as the livestock judging team coach and beef superintendent for Eaton County. The current cattle show pavilion at the Eaton County fairgrounds, donated by them, is an example of their commitment. During this time, he also was asked to judge at many livestock shows and fairs. They have continually supported the livestock auction at the 4-H youth fair with his last purchase being a lamb this year, 2025.

He was a lifetime member of Michigan Angus Association and Michigan Simmental Association. He served as President of the Michigan Angus Association for two terms and received the Heritage award in recognition of his service to the promotion of the Angus breed. In the 1970’s and 80’s, he was a Livestock Market News Reporter for the State of Michigan. He also served on the Federal Land Bank Board for 10 years.

Fred had a rock-solid faith in God and felt the most important thing in life is your relationship to Almighty God. He was a devoted member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Methodist men’s group, and served as a trustee in the church.

His desire for others to know the loving salvation of his savior was great. He was a member of Gideon’s international for over 50 years, of which he was church assignment secretary for many years. Everywhere he went, from college campuses to airports to the hospital to his last home, Island City Assisted Living in Eaton Rapids, Fred would hand out a Gideon testament saying, “here is a road map for life, would be good to read it through.”

He believed that generosity is a way to share our blessings with other fellow human beings. Ever since the 60’s, he made frequent donations to the Red Cross, donating many gallons of blood during his life. Many know that even though he could not walk in his recent years, he would still raise donation money for the annual CROP Hunger Walk.

His friends and family will always remember him as a man of faith, integrity, character, and steadfastness.

He is survived by his children Dennis (Leah) Good of Charlotte, David Good of Phoenix, AZ, Mary Beth Good of Berrien Springs, and Kevin (Kammie) Good of Parker, CO. He is also survived by grandchildren, Elissa (Chris) Mullinix, Heather (Trent) Clemen, Chelsea (Chad Tenpenny) Good, Sam (Shaina) Good, Devin (Sabrina) Good, Nathan (Koban) Good, Derek Good, and Kelton (Cheyenne) Good. Also is survived by sister-in-law Jean Covert of Ohio.

Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Mason, Kinsley and Cameron Mullinix, Blake, Brady and Becklyn Clemen, Madelyn and Jackson Good, Della and Tessa Good, Calvin Good.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Judith Good; brothers Byron, Paul, and Don Good; and sister Elizabeth Owsley.

Funeral services will be held on Monday October 27, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church with Pastor John Messner officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Burkhead-Green-Kilgo Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Delbert “Del” Richard Fancher, 79, of Charlotte, a man dedicated to his family and his country, died Wednesday, October 8, 2025 in Charlotte. Delbert was born November 26, 1945, the son of Earl Wesley and Martha Gladys (Hansen) Fancher. As a young man, he worked at Ripley’s Auto, developing mechanic skills that would serve him throughout his life. Delbert was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Vietnam, where he proudly served a tour of duty. On October 3, 1970 he married Virgie Paulette Hollister and together they raised three daughters.

Delbert was known as the neighborhood “fix it” guy. He not only loved wrenching on his own cars, but was also always on the lookout for a project with which he could help. He was also happy out on the water fishing. Throughout his life, family was a central focus for Delbert. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and made a point to get together with his children and grandchildren every week.

Delbert is survived by his three daughters, Angela (Elwin) Fulkerson, Annette Fancher, and Amber (John) Gibson; two grandsons, Sterling (Alexi) Fancher and Zakary Fulkerson; two granddaughters, Breanna (Cody Metzger) Fulkerson and Sophia Gibson; four great-grandchildren, Lynden Case, Hudson Fancher, Beckett Fancher, and Truett Fancher; sisters, Wilma Freed and Eileen Hollister; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Fancher; brothers, Wesley Fancher and Duane Fancher; sister, Leoma Smith; and brother-in-law, Orvil “Sonny” Hollister.

Donald Lee DeBord, a testament to craftsmanship and integrity, passed away on October 12, 2025, in Charlotte, Michigan, at the age of 91. He was born on September 22, 1934, in Crab Orchard, Kentucky. He dedicated his life to the art of brick masonry, a craft he began mastering at the young age of 15. Donald was a self-taught artisan whose meticulous attention to detail set him apart in his field. He held himself and those around him to the highest standards, embodying the values of hard work and excellence throughout his career.

Beyond his professional achievements, Donald was a man of strong will, honor, and truly embodied the essence of a gentleman. He found joy in various pursuits, including small game hunting, playing cards, and embarking on travels that broadened his horizons and enriched his life experiences. Don was proud of his Cherokee Native American heritage and his home State of Kentucky.

Don is survived by his children, David and Sharon DeBord of Hamersville, Ohio, John and Pat DeBord of Pelzer, South Carolina, Steve DeBord of Silver Spring, Maryland, Deborah Hook of Charlotte, Michigan, Annette and Shane Elliott of Russellville, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ira DeBord, his mother, Susie Dishon DeBord, and several brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Dwight Ezop celebrating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Eugene Curtis Stevenson, lovingly known by friends and family as Curtis, brought vibrancy and passion to the lives of everyone he touched. Born on October 18, 1980, Curtis lived a life marked by resilience and creativity until his tragic passing from an auto accident on October 9, 2025, at the age of 44.

A proud graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, Curtis’s journey was one of continuous personal growth and giving back. His dedication to aiding others shone brightly, particularly in his role as a guest speaker at recovery events. Here, Curtis shared his experiences with immense bravery and kindness, connecting with listeners through his authenticity and serving as a beacon of hope for many grappling with similar struggles.

Curtis channeled his challenges into art, becoming an incredibly talented artist. His portfolio brimmed with countless paintings and drawings, as well as meticulously designed tattoos that he skillfully brought to life. Artistry was not merely a hobby for Curtis; it was a lifeline, a means of communicating his inner world, and a testament to his remarkable talent.

At a young age he mastered the rhythmic steps of tap dancing and continued to dance throughout his childhood up until high school.

Friends and acquaintances recall Curtis as the undeniable life of any party, a man who could effortlessly invigorate the spirits of those around him with his humor and charisma. Whether it was through a witty joke or a spontaneous act of creativity, Curtis’s ability to make others laugh was unparalleled.

Curtis’s approach to life was a masterful blend of fun and discipline. Upon returning home from work every day, he immediately immersed himself in hobbies, channeling his energy into staying busy, clean, motivated, disciplined, and inspired. His fervor for life and the arts was a daily reminder of his commitment to personal growth and the pursuit of his passions.

Described by those who knew him best as funny, creative, and passionate, Curtis lived out these traits in every aspect of his life. His legacy is one that will be cherished and remembered, an enduring inspiration to all who marveled at his journey and rejoiced in his accomplishments.

Curtis is survived by his daughters, Areya Dean of Albion, Tyler Stevenson of Haslett; mother, Jane Stevenson; sisters, Scarlett Stevenson, Autumn (Joshua) Vanesse; grandmother, Catherine Williams; niece, Vivien Stevenson; nephews, August Stevenson, Harvey Stevenson. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Stevenson.

Corrine Brandt of Potterville, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend died peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by her family. Corrine was born in Lansing, Michigan on February 16, 1940, to Harold and Gladys (Black) St. John. Corrine met her husband Frank Brandt and married on August 17, 1957. They were married for 53 years until Frank’s passing in 2010. Corrine retired after 30 years working as a cashier at Meijer in Lansing, having the pleasure of serving many customers over the years including Loretta Lynn and Magic Johnson. Corrine was a pillar of the Potterville community, volunteering much of her time and talent throughout the years. She served as treasurer of the PTA for Potterville Elementary and was a member of the Potterville Lioness Club.

Corrine was athletic in her younger years, both playing and coaching her girls in softball. She liked to watch many game shows and enjoyed challenging word search puzzles. Family was most important to her and her home was always surrounded with the love of family. She would look forward every year to camping trips with her children and grandchildren.

Corrine is survived by her daughters Cathy (Jerry) Neal, Penny Brandt, Pam (Mark) Benton, and Susan (Jon) Rogozinski; grandchildren, Scott (Olivia) Cole, Justin (Rebecka) Cole, Tori (Matt) Sweet, Kara (Brent) Mondoskin, Jamie (Chris) Barber; great-grandchildren Brandt Cole, Kinsley and Jaxon Sweet, and Sullivan Barber; brother, Keith (Sharon) St. John; sister-in-law, Shirley St. John; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth Irene Morgan, age 97 of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, with her family beside her.  She was born on January 4, 1928, in Sassafras, Kentucky, to Rufus and Zilda Armstrong. Ruth spent her early years in Kentucky, attending school in Sassafras before moving to Michigan with her family in 1949.

Throughout her commendable career, Ruth worked faithfully for over 30 years, retiring from Owens Illinois glass factory in Charlotte. She briefly worked at the pickle factory in Eaton Rapids prior to her long tenure at Owens Illinois.

Ruth had a passion for crafting; especially crocheting and knitting. She was a familiar face at craft shows around central Michigan, particularly at the Courthouse Square Craft Sale during the yearly Frontier Days, where she proudly sold her handmade tablecloths and crocheted doilies.

Ruth was known as a loving mother and grandmother, leaving behind her daughter, Marie Gordon of Grand Ledge; along with four grandchildren: Tammy Brandon, John Brandon, Jada (Mike Gardner) Blanchard, and Karen (Jeff) Strickling. Additionally, she is survived by twelve great-grandchildren: David, Doug, Jennifer, Genoa, Zack, Kaitlyn, Bryce, Kira, Gage, Noah, Kylie, and Caden; 17 great-great-grandchildren; her niece, Fay Maggard Binkowski; and many friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Zack Morgan, who passed away in 1978; her daughter Betty Brandon, who passed away in 1996; and her granddaughter Michelle Brandon, who left this world in 1970.

A graveside service will be held in her honor at Maple Hill Cemetery, located at 801 Tully Brown Drive, Charlotte, MI, on October 16, 2025, starting at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend as they remember the life and legacy of Ruth Irene Morgan.
